Musings: Vinyasa

Lately I’ve been practicing full awareness in each transition in my yoga practice by slowing down and emphasizing muscular engagement to feel every micro movement.  It’s challenging while bringing me deeply into the present moment.

Contrary to modern yoga practice, vinyasa traditionally did not mean doing a chaturanga push-up, updog, and down dog transition or flowing breath to movement quickly from posture to posture. Vinyasa in Sanskrit means to place in a special or sacred way.  This way of moving with full consciousness, honoring the cycles and pulsations of life is what I work to instill in my own practice, how I teach, and the way that I show up in my life.

If you’d like to practice with me, join me for a live yoga class, every Tue and Thu 9am PT, or select a practice from my on-demand library.

Wishing you well,

Catherine
