Our Courthouse Wedding
One year ago today, Dan and I tied the knot at our local courthouse. It was just the two of us, and the courthouse registrar who served as our officiant. We filled out the online form, took a paper slip with our number, and waited eagerly for our turn.
I remember wanting to wear my hair down, but putting it up as I waited. I forgot to take it down. After waiting a bit, all of a sudden it was our turn, and in the rush of excitement, I stood, holding Dan’s hands, messy bun and joyous smile, for the moment of a lifetime. Neither of us could keep our smiles from stretching ear to ear as we stared into each other’s eyes, repeating our vows to one another. It was only after we kissed and heard clapping, that we realized we had an audience.
We spent the rest of the day celebrating, just the two of us, basking in our marital bliss. We shared the news with our families, then went and ate lunch at our favorite local Greek restaurant, relaxed at our neighborhood park, reading and just grateful to spend time together.
It was the first of three celebrations, but so special for us in the relaxed, intimate, way that we were able to spend time together, just the two of us. It is a day that we will always cherish.
